2019 Special Election – Member Statements

Member statements received from 2019 potential candidates, in order of receipt:

Member statement from Terry Atchison:

Hello, my name is Terry Atchison.

About eight years ago I became a member of BRPC. I started working as a volunteer Range Officer about seven years ago and about two years ago I volunteered to drive the trash truck and empty the trash once a week as well as maintenance work around the range. I operate the forklift and backhoe when needed.

I was a Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy in Bakersfield California for over 24 years and during that time I was assigned to the helicopter program. I wrote the initial training manual for the Helicopters Observers Program. After I left that assignment I became a S.E.R.T. Team member and was sent to the Susanville Armorers College where I received my certification as a Law Enforcement Armorer.

After I retired from the Sheriff’s Department, I went to work for the Hollywood film industry and obtained the title of Property Master and Armorer preparing budgets for equipment and manpower for films.

I owned a gun store and also provided firearms training. I have been involved with firearms since I was nine years old.

I believe I would make a good board member because of my background and I would appreciate your vote.

Thank you,
Terry Atchison

Member statement from Barry Lagan:

Good Day, my name is Barry Lagan.

I would like to be considered for the open BRPC board position. I have always enjoyed shooting sports. I have been using the BRPC since moving to Boulder City with my wife Jill, who is from BC, since 1993. My family and I enjoyed it so much I became a member of the club 10-15 years ago. I am a NRA Patron Life Member.

Other credentials that are not required, but I think are worth mentioning are as follows:
– Resident of Boulder City since 1993
– Full time Officer with LVMPD since 1996
– LE Firearms Instructor for LVMPD since 1999
– NRA Law Enforcement Instructor for Handgun and Shotgun, Tactical Shooting, Precision Rifle, Select Fire
– NRA Civilian Instructor for Basic Pistol, PPITH, PPOTH, and Chief RSO
– FBI Firearms Instructor
– Sig Saur Master Rife Instructor
– Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Sub Machine Gun Instructor
– Less Lethal Instructor for AXION, Defense Technology, Precision Ordinance, Combined Tactical Systems, and Simunitions
– I own K&C Firearms Training Company authorized to teach CCW
– I am a certified Shooting Sports Instructor for the BSA.
– My daughter, Alexis Lagan, is a current National Team member for Team USA Shooting, National Champion for Women’s Sport and Air Pistol, and National Record Holder for Women’s Air Pistol. She started shooting at BPRC and took youth classes there as well.

I have always had an interest in donating time to various organizations (church groups, social clubs, and community businesses) for youth protection, self-defense, home defense, and general firearm safety. I have always had an interest in becoming a board member. I have finally come to a place with work and family that I could dedicate myself and time to the BRPC Board.

Thank you so much for your consideration and vote. Respectfully,
Barry Lagan (702) 204-1393 cell

Member statement from Tim Notaro:

Hello, my name is Tim Notaro and I would ask for your consideration to serve you as a board member for our fantastic club.

I have been an avid firearms enthusiast since I was sixteen growing up here in Nevada. My first rifle training was at Chaparral High held at the Gun Store on Tropicana. I am a lifelong member of the NRA and still maintain my Federal Firearms License. I served as an accountant in the United States Air Force and upon my return, obtained my BSBA from UNLV. I have made a career as an accountant, auditor and now run my own management consultancy focused on corporate governance. Please see the link for a more exhaustive description of my career (https://avianoconsulting.com/aviano/tim-notaro/). I currently serve on the UNLV Lee Business School alumni board on their financial committee.

What I hope to bring to the club is my experience as a governance expert. Ensure that accountability and transparency is achieved and that you know how your club is running, how we spend your money, and how we can engage the membership to continue meeting your needs. I make a living at listening to people and I hope I may be allowed to serve you.

Thank you for reading. Kind regards,
