High Power Rifle

High Power Rifle is competitive shooting done with a high power rifle on standardized paper targets at distances from 200 to 1000 yards.

Shooting of this type is conducted at matches throughout the year all over the country and culminates with the National Championships now held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana every July.

The High Power Rifle shooting held at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club consists of 4 competitions held on Sunday of different weekends of the month.

High Power Monthly Match:

Also referred to as “across the course” consists of 4 stages where either iron sighted or scoped rifles are used:

  1. 20 rounds slow-fire standing in 20 minutes at 200 yards.
  2. 20 rounds rapid-fire sitting (2 strings of 10 rounds, 60 seconds per string) at 200 yards.
  3. 20 rounds rapid-fire prone (2 strings of 10 rounds, 70 seconds per string) at 300 yards.
  4. 20 rounds slow-fire prone in 20 minutes at 600 yards.

Each stage is preceded with 2 “sighter” shots in 2 minutes.

High Power Match Monthly Dates/Times:

4th Sunday of each month
Summer: 7:00 AM
Winter: 8:00 AM Dec – Feb.

High Power Palma Quarterly Match:

Prone shooting using iron sighted or scoped rifles (including F-class), the match consists of 3 stages:

  1. 15 rounds slow-fire prone in 22 minutes at 800 yards.
  2. 15 rounds slow-fire prone in 22 minutes at 900 yards.
  3. 15 rounds slow-fire prone in 22 minutes at 1,000 yards.

The first stage allows an unlimited number of “sighter” shots. Each following stage is preceded by 2 “sighter” shots.

High Power Palma Quarterly Match Dates/Times:

5th Sunday of the month (1 per calendar quarter)
Summer: 7:00 AM
Winter: 8:00 AM Dec. – Feb.

Mid-Range Monthly Match:

Prone shooting using iron sighted or scoped rifles (including F-class), the match consists of 3 stages::

  1. 20 rounds in 22 minutes at 600 yards.
  2. 20 rounds in 22 minutes at 600 yards.
  3. Aggregate of Matches 1 and 2.

Each stage is preceded with 2 “sighter”.

Mid-Range Monthly Match Dates/Times:

3rd Sunday of each month
7:00 AM

NRA Approved 1,000 Yard Monthly Match:

The NRA Approved 1,000 matches are shot from the prone position, both iron sighted and scoped rifles (including F-class) are used.

The match consists of 3 stages:

  1. 20 rounds in 30 minutes.
  2. 20 rounds in 30 minutes.
  3. Aggregate of Matches 1 and 2.

Unlimited sighters are allowed in each 30 minute shooting stage.

NRA Approved 1,000 Yard Monthly Match Dates/Times:

2nd Sunday of each month
7:00 AM

Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club Members Range.
